Lethbridge Volleyball Club
About LVC
|
Thank you to the following sponsors!!
The Lethbridge Volleyball Club (LVC) was informally created in 1992
by former Lethbridge Community College coach, Ard Biesheuvel, to serve
as a feeder system for the women's college program. What began as a
club with only one 18U women's team has now become a diverse club with
14 teams (4 men's and 10 women's) registered with Alberta Volleyball
for the 2008 season.
Over the years the club has faced several challenges including limited
access to gym facilities, dealing with large travel costs, and most significantly,
promoting volleyball in a community where basketball has been the pre-eminent
sport for many years. Slowly, the interest in club volleyball has grown
as has the community's awareness of this exciting sport. The recent success
of LVC teams has done much to help stoke such interest.
LVC also plans to extend its volleyball profile and involvement to beach
volleyball. Four new sand courts, the first in the city, were constructed
late in the summer of 2003 and will serve as the venue for several adult
and youth leagues this summer. The availability of outdoor courts will
provide further opportunity to develop community interest in the sport
of volleyball.
